Design Build Leader
Design Build is an annual event at Olin's Candidate's Weekend where prospective high school students design and build a structure that must fulfill a certain purpose created by the Design Build team. In past years, the prospective students needed to build a system that can transport a certain amount of water, need to create a baking powder-vinegar reaction down a ramp, or even build a structure that can withstand but not wind. This events is not graded; it introduces the students to Olin's curriculum.
I was a Design Build leader freshman and sophomore year. I and two other leaders organized over six Design Builds at Olin College for prospective students, alumni, and parents. We also lead a Design Build at University of Texas - El Paso and provided guidance documents for various other events at different schools.
These events were a great opportunity for me to give back to Olin and to introduce future students to Olin's unique, hands-on, collaborative engineering education. It is also a nice time to bring the Olin community together as volunteers and be silly for a little while.
